PKRC Condemns Massive Fuel Price Hike, Demands Immediate Reversal

Published by Admin on Mar 9, 2026

The Pakistan Kissan Rabita Committee (PKRC) strongly condemns the government’s decision to increase petroleum prices by Rs. 55 per litre and demands the immediate withdrawal of the increase in petrol and diesel prices. This drastic decision will impose an unbearable burden on farmers, tenants, and rural workers who are already struggling under severe economic pressures.

The increase comes at a critical time for the agricultural sector. Wheat harvesting is about to begin, while sugarcane and maize cultivation is currently underway. During this period, farmers depend heavily on diesel and petrol to operate harvesters, tractors, and tube wells for irrigation. The sharp rise in fuel prices will significantly increase the cost of cultivation and harvesting, directly affecting small farmers and tenants across the country.

In addition, transportation costs for wheat and other agricultural commodities to major markets will rise substantially. Farmers from Balochistan, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who must transport their produce over long distances to markets in Punjab and other regions, will be particularly hard hit.

This decision comes at a time when farmers are already being denied fair prices for their crops. Rising costs of inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, electricity, and irrigation have already pushed many farmers into deep financial distress. The latest fuel price hike will further worsen their economic conditions.

Despite ongoing global tensions and war, many countries have made only minor adjustments in fuel prices, while the Pakistani government has imposed an unjustified increase of Rs. 55 per litre, shifting the burden of economic crisis onto ordinary people.

PKRC therefore demands that the government immediately reverse this increase and reduce the petroleum levy to bring fuel prices back to previous levels.

If the decision is not withdrawn, farmers across Pakistan will be compelled to launch nationwide peaceful protests and demonstration against this economic injustice.

PKRC also strongly condemns the war imposed on Iran by the United States and Israel. The organization calls on the Government of Pakistan to play a constructive role for peace in the Middle East, withdraw its participation from the Board of Peace, and declare full solidarity with Iran.
